Searching for the ancestors of my grandfather William John McLaughlin and wife Matilda Duncan from the Newtownstewart/Plumbridge area Co. Tyrone. He was a postman in Newtownstewart and I believe they were married in the Presbyterian Church in Plumbridge. They are buried in the cemetary of the Church of Ireland graveyard on Main Street in Newtownstewart. They had two children Andrew John (my father) who immigrated to America and William Alexander. Would like to know ancestors as far back as possible for William John McLaughlin born 1864 and wife Matilda Duncan . Thank you. (Signed) P.Jacqueline McLaughlin W.H.

Hello Jacqueline,

I have a William McLaughlin of Glencoppogagh (Townland in the Parish of Bodoney Upper) marrying Matlida Duncan of Edenback (Townland in Bodoney Upper Parish) on 14 August 1894 at Newtownstewart Second Presbyterian Church in the Parish of Ardstraw, Tyrone.

William is listed as a postman and his father is Andrew Mclaughlin, a farmer.

Matilda's father is given as Alexander Duncan, also a farmer.

In the 1851 Tyrone Griffiths Valuation there are both an Alexander Duncan Senior and an Alexander Junior.

The couples witnesses are listed as Alexander Duncan (probably bride's brother) and Maggie Parke.

Hope this is relevant to your search

Kind regards

Colleen

Hi

My Great Grandmother Ann Duncan had a sister Matilda who married a William John McLaughlin.

Ann and Matilda's parents where Alexander Duncan and Matilda Jane Smyth. They were married on 21st February 1850 in Glenelly Presbyterian Church.

Matilda Jane Smyth was born in 1833 in Castledamph Plumbridge Co Tyrone and died on 7th March 1910. Her parents were William(Billy) Smyth b abt 1787 D 10.05.1878 and Bella Houston B 1803 D 21.3.1879.

I hope there is a connection.

Regards jenny Valentine Sydney Australia
