I'm researching the origin of my Hagerty family, and one other family researcher feels Derry is the proper starting point. The furtherest back I can get is one William Hagerty (or Heagerty, Haggerty, etc.) found in a North Carolina militia in the 1740s. His wife was a Lanham of Maryland, and her mother's side was named Browne. It could be that this William Hagerty was the immigrant and sailed to Maryland, but this is just a guess - he might not have been the immigrant Hagerty. I would appreciate any suggestions or help on my line or on the Hagerty's in general, since it is my understanding that this family did originate in or around Derry.

Thanks,
Paul
