1834 EmigrantsTranscribed from the 1834 Ordnance Survey Memoires Vol 22
The following is a list of names of the various persons who have emigrated through the Port of Londonderry to America during the years 1833 and 1834 It will show the age religion and townlands where each person resided and the port they emigrated to. All are recorded as being Presbyterians unless otherwise recorded. There was a high volume of Presbyterians leaving the north of Ireland at this time primarily due to the Tithe Aplotment Act{Land tax imposed by the Established Church} and the ending of leases issued pre 1800 for which the landlords were now asking exorbitantly high rents to renew. The poorer tenant farmers chose to leave. They had little choice. There are Tyrone and north Londonderry people recorded among them Alexander McMaster age 23 from Camus to Philadelphia 1834 Robert McEntire age 27 from Camus to Philadelphia 1834 Thomas McEntire age 26 from Camus to Philadelphia 1834 Samuel Patton age 26 from Gills to Quebec 1833 Ann Patton age 24 from Gills to Quebec 1833 Mary Patton age 5 from Gills to Quebec 1833 Margaret Jane Stewart age 18 From Curragh to Phildelphia 1834 Samuel Martin aged 30 From Carndoogan to Phildelphia 1833 Alexander McMullan aged 28 from Carndoogan to Philadelphia 1833 William McMullan aged 24 from Carndoogan to Philadelphia 1834 Robert Finlay aged 24 from Castleroe Coleraine to Quebec 1833 Mary Finlay aged 23 from Castleroe to Quebec 1833 William Cunningham aged 17 from Castleroe to Quebec 1833 William Patton aged 26 from Ballintaggart to Philadelphia 1834 Arthur McQuiggy RC aged 40 from Farranlester to New York 1834 Margaret McQuiggy RC aged 20 from Farranlester to New York 1834 John Fargey aged 20 from Farranlester to St Johns 1834 James Harper age 21 from Glenleary South to Quebec 1834 Robert Blair aged 20 from Ballinteer South to Quebec 1834 John Blair aged 18 from Ballinteer South to Quebec 1834 Elizabeth Huston age 36 from Ballinteer South to Philadelphia 1834 James Gordon age 28 from Killure to St Johns 1834 John Usher age 24 from Killure to St Johns 1834 Matthew Morrison age 27 from Crossgar to St Johns 1834 George Pollock age 21 from Ringrashmore to Quebec 1834 Matthew cKennedy age 24 from same place to Quebec 1834 William King age 24 from same place to Quebec 1834 Thomas Trainor age 26 from Ardvarness to St Johns 1833 David Anderson age 22 from same place to St Johns 1833 Jane Miller age 20 from same place to St John’s 1833 Margaret Jane Anderson age 1 year from same place to St Johns 1833 Catherine McCulla age 18 from same place to Phildelphia 1834 Izabella McCulla age 16 from same place to Philadelphia 1834 John Miller age 21 from Kiltinny Lower to Philadelpia 1834 Thomas Booth age 19 from Carn to St John’s 1833 Thomas McGonigal age 18 from same place to Philadelphia 1834 David Hunter age 32 from Leck to Philadelphia 1834 Hannah Hunter aged 24 from same place to Philadelphia 1834 James Pollock aged 44 from same place to Philadelphia 1834 Ann Pollock aed 42 Jane Pollock aged 18 Martha Pollock aged 16 Eliza Pollock aged 7 Robert Pollock aged 5 James Pollock aged 24 John Pollock aged 22 Mary Jane Pollock aged 28 All from Leck to Quebec 1834
