CAROLINA STATE GAZETTE AND COLUMBIA ADVERTISER, copies in the South
Caroliniana Library, University of S.C. Columbia,South Carolina.
AUGUST 9, 1806 Died on Saturday last, near this place,(Columbia) Mr.
William Tait, a native of Ireland.
MAY 26, 1827 Died in this
town on Friday evening the 18th inst., B.S. M'Namara, M.D., a native of
Ireland, aged 63.
SEPTEMBER 15, 1827 Departed this life in
Charleston, on the 2nd inst., Mr. Peter Murphy, a native of Ireland, but
for many years a respectable citizen of that place (Charleston).
OCTOBER 25, 1828 On Monday the 20th instant, at his residence in Fairfield,
in the 63rd year of his age, Robert Milling, Esq., a native of Ireland, but
for many years a citizen of this State.

JULY 20, 1819 Died, yesterday morning,
after a few hours illness, occasioned by a bleeding of the lungs, Mr.
Robert Delahunt, in the 58th year of his age, a native of Ireland, and
for a number of years an inhabitant of this place.

JUNE 12, 1821 Died, suddenly, on Sunday evening last, at the Saluda
Public Works, near Columbia, Mr. Patrick M'Namara, a native of Ireland.
SEPTEMBER 9, 1825 Died on the 19th ult., at his residence in Pendleton
District, Major Michael Dickson, in the 95th year of his age ... a native
of Ireland, came to America with his father at the age of five years, to
the State of Pennsylvania ... in 1777, he accepted a captaincy in the
service of (the State of) Georgia. From the PENDLETON MESSENGER.
APRIL 11, 1826 Departed this transitory life on the 20th inst., at his
residence in Newberry District, Mr. Walter Goodman, in the 76th year of his
age .... a native of Ireland, but for the last forty-five years a citizen
of the United States.

DECEMBER 6, 1833 At Tomsville, in Chester District, on the 21st ult.,
William McCluney, in the 99th year of his age, a native of Ireland. He
came to this State about the commencement of the Revolution, and when the
British Army invaded the State, he volunteered in her defence ....
JULY 8, 1837 An old Revolutionary Officer gone. Died, at his farm, on the
Jackson's Creek, in Fairfield District, Captain Hugh Milling, and officer
in the army of the Revolution, born at Drumbo, County Down, Ireland, on the
21st February 1752. He emigrated to America about the year 1774, when the
first revolutionary movements was made in that city. At that time he joined
a company of Grenadiers, raised by Capt. M'Call, by whom the British
Arsenal was forced open .... in 1778 was commissioned first Lieutenant in
the Sixth Continental Regiment of S.C [South Carolina?], and in 1779, a
Captain in the same regiment .... For upwards of 40 years he was a member
of the Presbyterian Church, and had the satisfaction of seeing all his
children grown up and most of them become members of the same church ..died
on the 7th May, 1837, aged 85 years, 2 months, and 16 days.

NOVEMBER 12, 1830 Died on the 21st of
August, of dropsey [dropsy?], at the house of William Adger, Esq., in
Fairfield, the Rev. James Rogers in the sixty second year of his age. After
completing his education in Scotland, Mr. Rogers was licensed to preach the
Gospel, in Ireland, his native country, at the age of twenty-one. He
shortly after came to America and located in the Fairfield District.
OCTOBER 11, 1831 Died at his residence in this town, on the 5th inst., Mr.
Thomas Quilter, aged forty years, a native of the County of Kerry,
Ireland. Industry and honesty, kindness and good nature, were conspicious
in his character, during a residence of nearly thirteen years in Columbia.
On Thursday evening last, Mrs. Elizabeth Welsh, a native of Ireland, and an
old and respectable inhabitant of this place.

MARCH 26, 1831 Died
in this place on Monday last, after a short illness, Mr. Michael Powers, in
the 32nd year of his age. Mr. Powers was a native of Dungarvin [Dungarvan?]
County (sic), Ireland, and came to this country about 4 months since,
during which time has been a resident of our town ....
* OCTOBER
1, 1831 Died in this town on the 5th inst., Mr. Thomas Quilter, aged
40 years, a native of the County of Kerry, Ireland .... a residence
[resident?] of nearly 13 years in Columbia.

TIMES AND STATE GAZETTE, copies in the South Carolianiana Library,

FEBRUARY 8, 1830 Died in this place last night, Mr. William B. Steele, a
native of Ireland, and formerly attached to the Theatrical Corps.
SEPTEMBER 2, 1830 Died in this town on yesterday morning, Mr. John Finn,
aged about 26 years, a native of Dublin, Ireland, and for some time
past, a merchant of this place.
* NOVEMBER 11, 1830 Died on the
21st August, at the house of Wm. [William?] Adger, in Fairfield, the Rev.
James Rogers, in the 62nd year of his age. After completing his education
in Scotland, was licensed to preach in Ireland, his native country, at the
age of 21 ...

SEPTEMBER 9, 1836 Died of inflammation of the lungs, on the 31st ultimo,
Mr. John Black, one of the oldest citizens of Columbia. The deceased was
a native of Manchester, England, and was born in 1871; married in Ireland,
County of Tyrone, and came to the United States in the early part of 1811
....
NOVEMBER 11, 1836 Died in Charleston, on the 8th of
October, 1835 (sic), Mr. Luke Feeny, a native of Ireland and a resident of
Charleston, for the last twenty years.
* JULY 7, 1837 An
old Revolutionary Officer gone. Died, on his farm, on Jackson's Creek, in
Fairfield District, Captain Hugh Milling, an officer in the army of the
Revolution, born at Drumbo, County Down, Ireland, on the 21st February,
1752. He emigrated to America about the year 1771, and was a resident in
Charleston
in the year 1774, when the first revolutionary movements
was made in that city .... commissioned first Lieutenant in the Sixth
Continental Regiment of South Carolina, and in 1779, a Captain in the same
regiment .... In his last years he was tried by many afflictions and severe
dispensations of Providence, in the death of his wife, one son, six
daughters, following each other to the grave in rapid succession .... A
member of the Presbyterian Church .... died 7th May, 1837, aged 85 years,
two months and sixteen days ....
JULY 21, 1837 It is with
heartfelt regret we announce the premature death by drowning, of Rev. Hugh
Hawthorn, recently attached to the Barhamville Female Collegiate Institute
near Columbia .... "Clarksville (Georgia), July 12, 1837. Sometime last
week, I think on the 5th, a clergyman arrived at this place in the
Augusta Stage, and preached in the church the same evening." .... Mr.
Hawthorn, we learn was a native of the town of Fadney, CountyDown, near
Banbridge, Ireland.
AUGUST 18, 1837 Died, yesterday morning,
Michael Harkens, a native of Ireland, but for many years an industrious and
useful inhabitant of this town.
MARCH 2, 1838 Died, in this
place, on the 23rd ult., Mrs. Esther Waddell, aged 80 years. Mrs. Waddell
was a native of the county of Donegal in Ireland. She emigrated to this
place in 1830, and has since resided in great cheerfulness and comfort
with her son Robert. She became a member of the SeceederChurch at the age
of 18 ....
Departed this life on the 20th ult., Mrs. Mary Ewart, in
the 76th year of her age. This aged servant of God was born in the
CountyDown, Ireland, and came to this country a few years ago in company
with her youngest child and only daughter ....
