Some Ballymena headstones

Erected in Memory of

Mary HAMILTON, wife of the Reverend William HAMILTON of Ballymena in
who meekness, charity and unaffected piety were equally amenently
companions when she departed this life, August 6th, 18?? (someone has
written 1807 besides this). In the 27th year, of her age. Also the
remains of the Reverend William HAMILTON, Minister of Balymina, died
June 13, 1811, in the 41st year of his age. Here too, the remains of
their only children, Jane and Mary.

Here lieth the body of Elizabeth, wife of Hugh EDMONSTON, and daughter
of James HOOD, age 21 departed this life on April 2, 1764.

John ALLEN, of Balymina, in memory of his father, Robert ALLEN, who died
December 28, 1881, age 77 years. Margaret his sister died April 28,
1863, age 30 years. Robert his son died, September 24, 1865, age 4
months, also his mother, Janet who died October 21, 1884, age 80 years.
Jessie his sister died November 25, 1891, age 50 years. Marianne, his
sister, died July 12, 1899, age 64 years.

In the corner is an old stone under the tree. 

Erected in memory
of Agnes MORRISON who died December 17, 1820, age 55 years, also Robert
Morrison, (her husband handwritten in), who died February 23, 1827, aged
69 years. The rest of the stone if obliterated. (actually the typed
portion says oberberated and the handwritten part above it says
obliverated  but I think they mean obliterated.)

Following the wall to the left, erected  by William GILMER of
Glenarm, in memory of his dear wife and children. His son William, died
July 12, 1841, aged 16 days. His daughter, Martha, died May 12, 1850,
aged 3 years. Hi daughter, Jane, died April 12, 1865, aged 19 years. His
daughter, Ann, died November 20, 1861, age 19 years. His son James, died
November 1, 1865, aged 26 years. His dear wife Ann, died February 28,
1901, aged 86 years. The above named William GILMER, died October 17,
1903, aged 92 years.

In memory William Wauhope BLACK, died July 29, 1859, aged 21 years. Also
his mother, Hanna black, who died December 2, 188, aged 87 years. And of
his father, David Black, who died May 19, 1890, aged 88 years.

Margaret GREEN of Balymine, Ireland, John CALDWELL, who died in Belfast
January 13, 1892, aged 37 years. Also her sister, Hanna Green, who died
in Belfast August 29, 1880, aged 19 years, and their father, Henry
GREEN, who died in Belfast, June 25, 1892, aged 72 years.

Hugh McCLARNON of Ballymena. In memory of his son William Hugh who
departed this life December 23, 1811, aged 18 months, also his nephew,
Robert CLARK who departed this life May 2, 1856, aged 30 years, also
his son Henry and his wife Mary (or May is handwritten after Mary) who
died 1850. The above mentioned Hugh McCLARNON died 1810.

In memory of

Jane WHITE, of Ballymena, who departed this life December
13, 1847, aged 39 years, and her son, James, died March 24, 1837, aged 2
years and her daughter, Elizabeth, who died November 7, 1847, aged 18
days. James WHITE, her husband, died, August 17, 1881, aged 75 years.

Erected by Robert CRAIG, in memory of his father, James Craig, died,
July 1867, aged 75 years, also his wife elizabeth, who died April, 1848,
aged 54 years, and his daughter, Agnes, died August, 1847, aged 39
years. Likewise, Matilda, who died, November 1869, aged 26 years. Also
Thomas, who died November, 1837, aged 17 months.

To the memory of

James RUSSELL, of Belfast, died January 9, 1815, aged
45 years, Jane his wife died December 4, 1844, aged 82 years, also their
children, Robert, Jane, Margaret, and James, who died in infancy.

In memory of

Annie MONTGOMERY, who died November 11, 1862, aged 19
years, also Adam Montgomery, who died May 4, 1844, aged 14 months.
Likewise, John Montgomery, father of the above, who died May 25, 1865,
aged 58 years. The rest of the stone was obliterated.

To the memory of

the late Thomas MOORE, of Ballymena, departed this life
May 15, 1860, aged either 89 or 79 years, also his children, Ann, died
February 9, 1835, aged 3 years and either 6 or 8 months. William, died
March 11, 1839, aged 2 months, Robert J. died April 2, 1846, aged 3
months, William, September 8, 1846, aged 4 years and 8 months, Eliza
died January 1, 1851, aged 19 years, also Eliza, wife of Thomas, Moore,
died December 28, 1874, aged 73 years. Thomas Cortney Moore, born July
8, 1828, died (February 14, 1870 was typed and then crossed out and 26
Nov 1877 was handwritten). Then more handwriting is added saying, John
Moore born 11 Jun 1817 died 13 Feb 1879 or 1870.

John BARTHOLEMEW, of Crumkill, who died May 10, 1880, and his wife
Margaret died November 26, 1893, also their granddaughter Jane
Bartholemew, who died September 9, 1916.

William PATTERSON, in memory of his daughter, Mary Ann Patterson, died
May 11, 1867, aged 15 years, also his daughter Eliza Jane, died May 18,
1877, aged 27 years, also his son William John, died April 5, 1878, aged
23 years, also my beloved wife, Elizabeth, died March 8, 1892, aged 72
years, also his son, Samuel, who died November 26, 1897, aged 39 years.
The rest of the stone obliterated.

Erected by Samuel TRAYNOR, in memory of his daughter, Marion, who died
March 22, 1873, aged 15 years, also of his beloved wife, Marianne (typed
but crossed out and Mary Ann handwritten), who died November 12, 1884,
aged 68 years. the above named, Samuel Traynor, died December 4, 1889,
aged 76 years.

In memory of John T. TRAYNOR, born December 9, 1854, died at Reshawur,
September 7, 1880.

John DEMSTER, In memory of Andrew, his father, who died December 2,
1828, aged 79 years, also of Agnes his mother, who died April 17, 1829,
aged 72 years. Likewise of his son, Andrew, who died June 16, 1842, aged
17 years, and his son Hood Hazlet, died May 24, 1842, aged 6 months.

Sheals, who died June 1847, aged 50 years, also his brother, Thomas, who
died April 10, 1867, aged 28 years. also his mother Isobella Sheals who
died December 20, 1881, aged 83 years, and his nephew, Samuel Sheals,
who died April 21, 1885, aged 19 months, also his brother-in-law, John
McMULLAN, died December 24, 1898, also the above, name, Samuel Sheals,
who died November 1897, aged 72 years, also his sister, Margaret
McMullan, who died March 27, 1921, also his nephew, William McMullan,
died March 30, 1921, aged 47 years, also John= McMullan SIMPSON, who
died, December 26, 1931, John Simpson, father of the above named John
Simpson, died June 26, 1946, aged 76 years.

Presbyterian College, Belfast. Died June 8, 1867, aged 59 years.

Erected by George DUGAN, to the memory of his sons, John and James
Andrew who died in their eighth year and William Young, who died on the
15th October 1840, in his seventeenth year, also Elizabeth S. Dugan, his
daughter, and Mary Kamran/Cameron. Also Martha Dugan his wife.

John ATKINSON, born Mary 15, 1782, died March 13, 1868, his
daughter, Mary died May 29, 1827, also of Marianne (Mary Ann written
above) Best Atkinson, died October 25, 1839, Alice Davidson Atkinson,
died January 7, 1856, also of his daughters Annie, Relict of Reverend
Hugh WADDEL, of Glenarm, who died June 1, 1899, aged 84 years, and
Sarah, who died February 19, 1900, aged 81 years.

Sarah, the beloved wife of James BALLENTINE, who
departed this life December 4, 1839, aged 35 years, also of James
Ballentine, who departed this life February 10, 1859, aged 71 years,
and of George, the beloved son of George Ballentine, Balymina, who
departed this life September 29, 1862, aged 1 year and 9 months.

died October 25, 1910, aged 79 years, and his brother, John W. Kinnear,
who died February 12, 1911, aged 85 years, also his sister Sarah, who

departed this life March 6, 1859, aged 75 years, also of the above name,

his wife, Born the 11th day of March 1860 (died Mary 19 Mar 1869 written
above), and Jane March 21, 1869, and of Anne Georgina, the beloved
daughter of the said Michael Harrison and Sophie Mary Harrison, born May
29, 1871, died June 15, 1879, and of the said, Michael Harrison, Judge
of the High Court of Justice, in Ireland, Queens Bench Division, born
October 23, 1823, died October 8, 1895.

Matthew WELLS, of Balymina, erected this to the memory of his sons,
James Wells, died April 20, 1832, aged 11 months. William Wells, died
June 3, 1836, aged 4 months. Likewise, his daughter, Mary Jane McKELBEY,
died January 15, 1855, aged 60 years. (added in handwriting: and Agnes
Wells the beloved wife who died 18 Jan 1855 age 60 yrs. And the 60
years noted for Mary Jane McKelbey is scratched out and 34 is written
instead).

In memory of

Christopher BEATTIE, died December 25, 1868, aged, 4 years.
Sarah Beattie died July 25, 1874, aged 12 years, James Rea Beattie, died
January 5, 1875, aged 21 years, Robert Beattie, died May 10, 1876,
aged 25 years, Mary Jane Beattie, their mother, died august 6, 1902,
aged 75 years, also William George Beattie, died April 9, 1927, aged 72
years, also Mary Jane Beattie, died, November 25, 1940, aged 83 years.
